  • ~1 6kg white cabbage, a small head, cut in bite-size pieces
  • 2 onions diced
  • 500 g beef tartar
  • 1 small bay leave
  • ¼ tsp. caraway seeds
  • salt and pepper
  • potatoes to taste


  • first heat up a big pot and cook the tartar until brown and crumbly, take out of the pot and set aside
  • now in the same pot fill in the cabbage, the onion, the bay leave and the caraway seeds and fry for some minutes.
  • You need to watch it, so the cabbage doesn´t burn and stir occasionally.
  • Now put on the lid, turn down the heat to medium/small-ish and cook for 20-30 minutes, until the cabbage is cooked. If needed add 200-300ml of vegetable or beef broth. This depends on how much water the cabbage lets out and how fluid you want the dish.
  • when the cabbage cooks you can also boil the potatoes in saltwater
  • when the cabbage is cooked but not too soft, add salt and pepper to taste and serve with the potatoes and sour cream.
