Casserole of "gestovte" green beans and potatoes

  • 1 kg potatoes
  • 500 g green beans I use frozen
  • 500 ml milk 1.5 fat
  • 3-4 tablespoons flour
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon savory
  • 75 g bacon but in pieces
  • salt and pepper
  • ca. 5g butter for the pan
  • lean ham to taste for the topping not included in the nutrition info
  • parsley for the topping


  • first peel the potatoes and cut them in thin slices, add a teaspoon of salt and set aside
  • preheat the oven to 200° degrees celsius
  • heat the milk in a pot until it cooks, lower the heat and whisk in the flour. Start with 3 spoons and add one more if needed. The sauce is supposed to be creamy but shouldn´t be too thick.
  • Add nutmeg, savory and season with salt and pepper to taste
  • butter the bottom of your baking pan thinly
  • Squeeze out the water from the potatoes and put on the third of the slices as the first layer into the baking pan
  • top with half of the green beans (leave them frozen) and half of the sauce
  • add another layer of potatoes and repeat the previous step, finish with the last third of the potatoes and top with the bacon
  • Bake for 40.50 minutes until the bacon is crispy and the potatoes are cooked.
  • service with ham and parsley
